As a long term client of Website Design in Cheltenham the voice over artist Andy Turvey is given regular monthly reports on where his site is ranking on Google for various agreed keyword phrases. As do all of our clients as a courtesy service.

Around Easter time- after Google’s new algorithm process review which now promotes responsive ie will work on tablets, smart phones. computers and pods we advised Andy that his site was slipping down the first page of Google.

Accordingly we drew up a list of requirements for him for his new site and Andy helpfully provided some new content for the revamped site.

We started off by rebranding his site from a colourful site to a cleaner, sharper black, white and grey scheme.

Which meant that we had to create a new logo for him. As the site is eponymous it made sense to feature Andy in the logo. So we devised and created a new cartoon logo for him.

Building on this we then transferred his site- which was a series of standalone pages into a WordPress format- which allows us not only to be responsive, but also search engine optimised with the added set of options to add extra facilities and features.

One of the advantages of WordPress is that if it is used properly it can “grow” the number of pages which can get ranked in Google. So for example Andy’s site had 25 pages. The site now has more than twice that number now cached in Google.

And the client’s view of his new site? ” The website is now PERFECT! Just what I wanted! My life is now complete!”

Whilst Contemporary Cake Designs‘ old site ranked well for it’s brand the new redesign and search engine optimisation by Website Design in Cheltenham is now ranking considerably better.

The site is now coming out at the top of Google for the phrase “contemporary cakes” above 17,400,000 competitors- which also feature several of our optimised images.

Additionally they also now have a top rank for “chocolate cakes designs”- above 3,170,000 competitors.

The old site hadn’t been updated for several years, so the brief was to make the site Contemporary as well as responsive- ie will work on computer screens, smart phones, tablets and all mobile devices- and search engine optimised so that people can find the new site in the first place.

Thus our opportunity started with redesigning their logo- which they wanted to be fresh, modern and in keeping with their professional patisserie status as creative cake artists.

The result you can see above.

Our next requirement was to install a WordPress system so that the whole site is now more able to be editted by the clients- but also to provide more technical capabilities for the site going forward- ie future proofing the site for future developments and business requirements.

The next step was to add new content and make sure that all of the pages and images were search engine optimised for Google and the search engines to maximise the potential of their amazing cakes.

As we mentioned last month Prestbury Bathrooms asked us at Website Design Cheltenham to redesign thier website not only to make it responsive for smart phones and tablets, but also to make it search engine optimised so that it will attract more new business and make them more money.

Accordingly we duly achieved the brief with Mark Clay the Managing Director saying “The site looks superb – thanks. It looks great and I thank you.”

Since a major rebalance of their algorythms in March Google have been giving priority rankings to websites which are responsive- ie able to work on smart phones and notepads- as well as computers.

Which may sound easy enough until you consider that all of these screens have different dimensions. So all the website’s images have to be resized so that all appear correctly.

So when a website depends on it’s images to sell and promote the skills and quality of the business- this becomes a bit of an issue. Thus when a page has nearly two dozen images- and they all need to be resized several times, the process becomes a bit of an organisational task.

Overall we have managed to promote Prestbury Bathrooms from having three pages listed in Google’s database to having over 40 pages now listed. And we are pleased to say quite a few are now ranked on the first page fo Google for the keyword phrases that Mr Clay wanted.
